Dr. Byrad Yyelland

Dr. Byrad Yyelland received a BA (Hons) in Psychology and MA in Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan, and an EdD in Higher Education Administration from the University of Calgary. Dr. Yyelland’s academic career has focused most predominantly on teaching, for which he has received numerous awards, including being twice recognized in the national Maclean’s Guide to Canadian Universities Popular Professor Award.
Byrad also has extensive experience in applied research and in recent years has been increasingly engaged in academic research on organizational culture change, emotion in the workplace, the impact of American design education on women in Qatar, developing an American honors program in Qatar, appreciative inquiry in strategic planning and the relationship of social sciences with design. He is currently writing a book for leaders on the topic of developing an emotionally supportive work environment.
Dr. Yyelland was an invited presenter at the inaugural TedX Education City event in 2012 held in Doha, Qatar and was chief instructor of Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Genbu-Kai Qatar from 2009 through 2015 until returning to Canada in June 2015. Still deeply in love with teaching, Byrad now also teaches part-time in the Sociology & Anthropology department at Mount Royal University and his authored numerous articles and teaching documents throughout his career.
