It is Elizabeth Anderson life work to delivers a message of hope that people can recover from mental illness. Since 1995 she has impacted more than 1000 audiences with the story of her journey from illness to recovery to victory.
Early successes in her recovery include being part of the World Psychiatric Association’s 1998 Anti-Stigma campaign and being one of the collaborators and original cast members in the play, Starry Starry Night, through the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta’s, Calgary Branch, Partnership Program.
After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Culture from the University of Calgary in 2010 (post-diagnosis) she decided to follow her dream of being an author. Elizabeth self-published her memoir, Being Mentally Healthy (In Spite of a Mental Illness). Recently, Elizabeth launched her second book the ABCs of Being Mentally Healthy Colouring Book which is a recovery activity book with 26 tips on improving positive mental health.
In 2012, she launched The Being Mentally Healthy Company and beingmentallyhealthy.com.
Elizabeth has told of her journey and recipe for success to audiences, such as the Family Medical Forum, University of Calgary 50th anniversary celebration, and internationally at the University of Wisconsin, Forum for Behavioural Science in Family Medicine (Luncheon Keynote). Recently, Elizabeth has also facilitated her 90 minute workshop at the 2016 IACAPAP World Congress in Calgary Alberta.
Elizabeth has been recognized for her efforts as the recipient of the True Grit Award Lt. Governor’s Circle on Mental Health and Addictions and is an CTV Inspiring Albertan. Elizabeth, an example of someone living with a diagnosis, is resilient. She knows that being mentally healthy in spite of a mental illness is a journey, a journey she is eager to share with those searching for a new positive paradigm for mental illness.
