TANYA HAYLES BIOGRAPHY

Tanya Hayles is an award-winning event planner, freelance writer, and public speaker using various mediums to evoke emotions, create change, and build movements. Tanya’s event planning career began in 2004 doing fundraising and special events for various charities, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The foundation of work with purpose (and on a budget) served her well in various roles in the non-profit sector.

Tanya Hayles eventually made the leap into event catering, which immersed her deeper into the whimsical world of event planning, doing everything from corporate breakfast brunches to winter wonderland weddings to celebrity-studded Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) parties. Tanya’s first grand solo stint as an event producer was realized in Toronto during the 2016 NBA All-Star Weekend, with her wildly successful All-Star House Party turning a frat house into the second hottest ticket in town.

She’s worked with entities like the Ontario government and CBC and grew small events like AfroTech into star-studded powerhouse experiences. Coining the term ‘social corporate’ – that has been the lane for her creative work: corporate with a social twist. While writing started as a side hustle, it has now become an outlet where Tanya connects with
readers by sharing her stories and experiences through mainstream media platforms.

Tanya Hayles touches on a wide variety of topics, from her journey into entrepreneurship, chatting about racial + social issues or writing about pop culture. Black Moms Connection started as a Facebook group in 2015, and is now an online global village, with chapters as far as Asia and a national non-profit organization providing culturally relevant programs and financial resources to educate and empower the Black mother and her family.

Tanya Hayles is now a thought leader on Black motherhood, recently doing a TedxToronto talk that was top 5 in the world when released in August 2022. Changing the conversation of diversity and inclusion was the reason behind launching the anti-Black racism consulting business Color In White Spaces, using pop culture and historical stats to make it real and relatable.
