  • Vulnerability = Strength. The relationship between men and mental health has often been referred to as a silent crisis. In an effort to avoid being perceived as weak or vulnerable, many men have a tendency to bury their emotions deep within.

Based on Allan’s bestselling book MENtal Health: It’s Time to Talk, this keynote features men who have persevered through their own mental health challenges. These lived experiences will provide a better understanding of topics relating to: masculinity, mental illness, addiction, sexual abuse, suicide, and ultimately wellness. Audience members, of all genders, will benefit from this timely message in various ways. Men will be able to relate to other men’s lived experiences, recognize that vulnerability is often met with compassion not judgement, and understand the freedom that comes from reaching out for help. Women will gain a new perspective on this issue and receive the confidence to reach out and connect with the men in their lives.

This presentation is guaranteed to break the silence surrounding men and mental health, and is a powerful reminder that the time to talk is now. Allan helps audience members identifty barriers that prevent men from seeking help. He will then show the advantates of men being more vulnerable and inspire men to embrace vulnerability as their superpower. Allan also is able to share the key differences between how men react differently to mental health issues than women, and redfine what it means to be a man. This presentaiton is not only for men, as it also focuses on how all humans can be a better support for men in thier lives as they work long hours or intensive labour.

Testimonials

I have had the privilege of attending several seminars on Mental Health in the Workplace and found Allan’s to be, by far, the most personal, insightful, educational and informative. Allan is an engaging speaker whose passionate delivery captivates the audience and allows us to share in the emotions and experiences of individuals living with mental illness. He brought humor to an otherwise heavy topic without compromising the seriousness of the message. I left Allan’s seminar a more informed and compassionate person.

- Heather Ricketts, National Manager of Employee and Labour Relations, Sleep Country Canada

I have heard more than 100 presentations on similar topics but Allan’s approach is refreshing because it is so holistic and positive. He has a gift in reaching far beyond the facts and statistics. He talks to MY experience and MY desire to live fuller with more freedom. When Allan speaks he has a compassion for people and an innate belief that the human spirit can overcome personal challenges. He is the speaker that supervisors and employee groups need to hear when planning topics around Addictions, EFAP, and Wellness.

- Arlene Jorgenson, CEO, SK WellPoint Health Ltd.

Allan has spoken at the Saskatchewan Regional National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program (NNADAP) twice with great success. He has also facilitated a two-day training course for basic counselling skills. Allan’s direct experience with students, as an educator at SIIT, makes him uniquely qualified to deliver information in an efficient and relatable manner that is uncommon with many facilitators. His commitment to quality show in his written material, including his books, “Stepping out from the Shadows”, and “Goodbye Stress. Hello Life!”, and in his oral presentations. Working with Allan is always smooth, and his professionalism makes him easy to hire again and again. We highly recommend Allan for workshops and other speaking engagements.

- Amy Wall, Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, Workforce Development

Allan is an inspiration. He has a thoroughly positive outlook for someone who has faced such adversities. His presentation is upbeat and full of energy. He touches on sensitive subjects, but does so with humor, and lots of compassion and understanding.

- Gerard Rieger, Sr. H&S Advisor, Cenovus Energy

Allan and I have shared stages, and I found him to be powerful and relatable. I realized each time I wasn’t actually listening to him as a fellow speaker or advocate, but as a sufferer of an illness that leaves me sometimes feeling alone and isolated. Allan made me feel less of each. I felt empowered by his words, as I now feel empowered by his book.
