On Page Spell Checker — Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
This privacy policy applies to the On Page Spell Checker Chrome extension
published by Speakers Canada.
Data Collection
This extension does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data.
We do not track users, record browsing history, or log any user activity.
How the Extension Works
The extension sends text from the active browser tab to the LanguageTool API
(api.languagetool.org) for spell checking. This text is used solely to return
spelling suggestions and is not stored, logged, or shared by Speakers Canada.
LanguageTool’s own privacy policy applies to data processed by their service.
The extension also fetches speaker names from the Speakers Canada website once
per day to keep its speaker name dictionary current. No user data is involved
in this request.
Local Storage
User preferences such as custom abbreviations, personal dictionary words, and
settings toggles are stored locally in the browser using Chrome’s built-in
storage. This data never leaves the user’s device and is not accessible to
Speakers Canada.
Third Parties
No user data is sold, shared, or transferred to any third party.
