COWBOY SMITHX BIOGRAPHY
Cowboy Smithx is an award-winning filmmaker of Blackfoot from Piikani & Kainai tribes of Southern Alberta who activates his culture as a foundation to create. He is the founder and curator of the highly acclaimed International Indigenous speaker series “REDx Talks” and discusses the important steps to empower his people and keep them resilient while sharing insights with audiences for discourse and philosophical consideration.
Cowboy Smithx was began his social advocacy, employed as a youth worker in East Vancouver, Canada. The organization he worked for is KAYA, which stands for the ‘Knowledgeable Aboriginal Youth Association’. Later that year, Cowboy Smithx graduated from the Indigenous Independent Digital Filmmaking Program at Capilano University.
With a passion for the arts and social advocacy, he turned to entrepreneurship as a way to create awareness around Indigenous heritage, human rights, reconciliation, equality, and access. Cowboy Smithx writes, directs, and produces film works in documentary, narrative, music video, and experimental art. Cowboy also serves as the Artistic Director of the Iiniistsi Treaty Arts Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to activating the true spirit and intent of Treaty #7.
His best-known work is a full feature documentary co-produced with Chris Hsiung called, Elder in the Making. It is a film about reconciliation between non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal Peoples in Canada. The film became an optional learning resource within Alberta schools to teach and share Indigenous ontological epistemologies. Cowboy Smithx said today’s youth have an opportunity through their use of convenient media opportunities to advocate for change in their communities.
Cowboy Smithx also founded the REDx Talks Speaker Series. This production serves as a platform for reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Peoples Smithx is the main stakeholder of his motion picture and film company, Eccentricus Imagery, which has been based in Vancouver B.C.
Cowboy Smithx is currently working in Indigenous education, Cultural consultation and Youth work around the world. He has been featured as a keynote presenter at over 150 conferences, symposiums and festivals across the globe. Cowboy Smithx facilitates dozens of interactive presentations for professionals, artists, and Indigenous youth and elders. Cowboy Smith is also the founder of the Elk Shadows Performing Arts Clan and the Noirfoot School For Cinematic Arts.
Cowboy is a serial entrepreneur and Indigenous advocate involved with many social enterprises, and non-profits and continuously gives back to his community. He is well known for his creative abilities and his passion for the arts, sharing the history and the pride of Indigenous People’s art and culture to raise awareness through authentic stories and the trials and tribulations of these people.
Through his passion for art, he is one of Canada’s leading Indigenous artists and is able to express himself through a creative experience. His motivational talks replicate the same process, creating life-changing experiences for the audience to walk away with paired with visual references, storytelling and his interactive approach to each session.
