GAYATHRI SHUKLA BIOGRAPHY
Gayathri Shukla is a dynamic and thought-provoking speaker who inspires individuals and teams to realize their full potential. As the Founder of an organization, a social enterprise dedicated to fostering inclusive cultures through the power of storytelling, Gayathri helps diverse teams discover their unique strengths and build a sense of belonging.
With a unique perspective shaped by living in three countries before the age of 15 and extensive global travel, Gayathri Shukla developed a deep sense of global citizenship and interconnectedness. A Professional Engineer with over 17 years of experience in the energy sector, she began her career in Fort McMurray, Alberta, where she was one of the few Indo-Canadian women in an industrial environment. Her journey from technical expert to project management leader showcased her ability to reinvent her skills and adapt to new challenges. Notably, she led the schedule integration efforts for Fort Hills, a $17 billion greenfield oil sands facility, achieving an industry-first in its safe and timely start-up.
Gayathri Shukla’s passion for continuous learning led her to earn an Executive MBA from Queen’s University while balancing a full-time career and parenting young children. Her MBA project, focused on unleashing innovation through stakeholder engagement, was recognized at executive levels and contributed to the creation of a new transformation department within her organization. As a leader in this department, Gayathri Shukla spearheaded digital strategy and innovation initiatives, particularly within the Mining workforce. She also led her department’s employee resource group for women’s diversity which deepened her expertise in equity, diversity and inclusion.
In 2021, Gayathri Shukla made a bold leap to entrepreneurship and has supported hundreds of teams in bringing their inclusion goals to life through an innovative storytelling method that she developed. Additionally, Gayathri Shukla served as a Fellow for Financial and Economic Inclusion at the Public Policy Forum, where she supported Canadian youth with sharing their lived experiences to influence policy development. She also hosts the Hearth 2 Heart podcast on CJSW 90.9, where she explores stories that build empathy and connection.
Gayathri Shukla’s commitment to community building has earned her several accolades, including two grants in 2021: the first for a video storytelling project called Unlikely Friends, and the second for a bestselling anthology she published: Landed, Transformative Stories of Canadian Immigrant Women, for which she was recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal. When she’s not leading transformative initiatives or inspiring others through her speaking engagements, Gayathri Shukla enjoys hiking in the mountains with her husband and two children.

Gayathri Shukla Speaking Testimonials
Thank you for an excellent event today. If I may be a bit vulnerable and transparent: I have to confess, over the past few years I have had mixed feelings at the end of International Women’s Day celebrations. My cynicism about this day has grown over the years because I have often felt it is treated as a kind of “Corporate mother’s day”. The well-meaning comments from friends and colleagues I often find are bordering on being patronizing, leaving me to feel that I have been congratulated for being a woman, or worse, commended on doing such fine work AND also being a woman… (I mean, like… is this a surprise?) I often end the day feeling frustrated. IWD...
Gayathri Shukla’s energy and message are contagious and will stay with me
I wanted to let you know what great presentation you gave at the Scovan Women’s day event on Monday! I tuned into about 3 different women’s day events, and you were by far the best speaker. You can really tell that you are quite the “”story teller””! I loved what you said about how the only way to get past certain challenges in life, is to go “”through”” it. I also loved your encouragement for us to “”own”” our stories. I was taking notes and really got a lot out of Gayathri Shukla’s presentation.
Gayathri Shukla! I just wanted to write you and thank you for your message at the Women’s Day Forum yesterday. I have listened to your talk twice, and have come away so inspired and impacted by your words and your story. There are significant moments in life when a message comes to you at a critical time that has the potential to change the path forward, and yours has done this for me. You have instilled such an important and motivating call to have accountability over choices, values, goals, and success. I am so grateful that your voice is there to inspire and lead women in our community, and feel personally driven to progress forward as a de-centered, compassionate professional...
Your presentation was so powerful. Thank you so much for delivering a keynote presentation that was both inspiring but also very human and real. I could listen to you present for hours. We had a number of individuals reach out for your contact information. Thank you very much for your excellent presentation today. I found you so inspiring and engaging. Your presentation resonated with me in so many ways. The themes of hope, humanity and courage were so meaningful. I am so glad that you delivered the keynote presentation for Discovery. You were perfect! You did a wonderful job of setting the tone for the entire event. I think that you did make it possible for us to...
I wanted to send you a quick note to thank you for the wonderful presentation today. I really appreciated your focus on empathy (as a contrast to a pure policy focus). As a queer person, I share your passion for growing inclusion and diversity; in particular within the engineering community. I’m really proud of the work we’ve been able to advance at Stantec on the I&D front over the last five years, but I know we still have a lot of work ahead of us.
