    Richard Bartrem is a seasoned marketing and communications executive with over 35 years of proven leadership and management experience and is the founder of 13 stories marketing communications. Richard is an energetic, creative and dynamic leader who brings boundless energy to strategy conversations, big-picture thinking, telling compelling stories and growing strong brands.

    Prior to his retirement in September 2022, Richard Bartrem was the Vice-President, Communications, Brand and Community Investment for WestJet, responsible for brand and product marketing, social media, public and media relations, internal communications, sponsorship, the WestJet store and community investment.

    He joined WestJet in 2005 as Director, Brand and Communications and over the course of his career at WestJet, helped shape the WestJet brand identity as seen and loved by millions of Canadians and around the world. Richard Bartrem led the marketing function responsible for the Owners Care brand platform through to the Love Where You’re Going brand identity.

    Together with the teams, Richard had the privilege of leading, he helped launched numerous campaigns that have been experienced around the world and garnered more than two dozen marketing awards including two Lions at the Cannes International Festival of Creativity.

    Richard Bartrem was also responsible for overseeing the launch marketing and communications plans for WestJet Encore, WestJet Link, the development of WestJet’s ultra-low-cost carrier Swoop brand and helped redefine what a global WestJet will look like with the arrival of the 787 Dreamliner.

    Through his time leading WestJet’s community investment initiatives, more than 100,000 gifts of flights have been distributed to WestJet partners in support of children’s health and wellness.
