LORELEI HIGGINS PARKER BIOGRAPHY

Lorelei Higgins Parker, known by her ancestral name as Blue Thunder Spirit Woman, is a Métis Canadian Cultural Mediator, a Rotary Peace Fellow, and a Positive Peace Activator, as well as a Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Program alumna. Lorelei Higgins Parker has worked on community-based projects locally and internationally with government agencies, non-government organizations, and the business sector. These projects center on peace and conflict transformation, Indigenous matters, and the elevation of female voices in leadership. Lorelei Higgins Parker has worked across the globe in communities in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America.

Lorelei Higgins Parker is the Team Lead for the City of Calgary’s Indigenous Relations Office and is working to advance The City of Calgary’s commitments to Truth and Reconciliation. Lorelei Higgins Parker is also a consultant with Mediators Beyond Borders International and Canadian Equality Consulting, cultivating projects that focus on global Indigenous matters, anti-racism, and enhanced access, community, and belonging efforts.

Lorelei Higgins Parker’s dedication to cultivating pathways to international understanding and peace through community-based conflict transformation is born from significant events in her life. Her experience as an Indigenous female growing up in rural Alberta has fueled her passion to create positive change and impact outcomes for Indigenous peoples in particular. Lorelei Higgins Parker’s life was transformed at a critical age by the influence of people who mentored her and helped her rise above her socio-economic circumstances. Much of her journey centers on her reconnection to her cultural roots and the opportunity to travel internationally as a youth as part of the Rotary International Youth Exchange. This rich intercultural immersion fueled Lorelei’s passion to help others on their path to rediscovering who they are and where they come from. With this, Lorelei has changed the narrative of her family’s lived realities and her life trajectory. Her family once lived in deep shame of identifying as Métis, and today, Lorelei is one of the proudest advocates for her community.

Lorelei is currently leading research and publication efforts in collaboration with Indigenous females globally, highlighting the instrumental roles of Indigenous women and girls in creating community resilience and leading everyday peacebuilding efforts. Her work highlights female-led initiatives across generations that are driving positive change. She also explores the gendered impacts of climate change and increased environmental insecurity, with a focus on how the climate crisis disproportionately affects Indigenous women and girls by exacerbating water, food, and other forms of insecurity, particularly in socio-political and contested spaces. Her research centers Indigenous women’s roles, agency, and contributions to environmental conservation and the advancement of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being that strengthen community resilience to climate change.

Lorelei has an MBA with a specialization in leadership. She is passionate about creating bold, open spaces for building peace through cross-cultural learning and the establishment and nurturing of enduring, positive relationships.

As a public figure and the reigning Mrs. Unity World Elite, Lorelei is leading efforts to increase female leadership in peacebuilding efforts locally and globally through her #everydaypeacebuilding and #powertotransform platforms and global action research as a Women, Peace, and Security laureate.

Lorelei has also served as Mrs. World Unity Canada 2023-2024 and Mrs. Canada Globe 2020-2023.
