MARK MARSOLAIS BIOGRAPHY

Mark Marsolais-Nahwegahbow is an Ojibwe entrepreneur, First Nations justice consultant, and social advocate from Whitefish River First Nation in Ontario’s Manitoulin District. Dedicated to advancing Indigenous rights, reconciliation, and sustainable development, he works to address systemic barriers facing Indigenous peoples through culturally grounded solutions. His mission is rooted in self-determination, education, and social justice, with a focus on building long-term capacity in communities. Known for his engaging and informative presentations, Marsolais-Nahwegahbow delivers keynotes, workshops, and training sessions on topics including Indigenous justice, clean drinking water access, community empowerment, and economic development.

With over 27 years of experience in social services, Marsolais-Nahwegahbow has made significant contributions in Indigenous law, programme development, counselling, and education. As a recognised Gladue expert and writer, he has worked extensively to educate legal professionals, policymakers, and service providers on the importance of culturally relevant approaches within the Canadian justice system. His expertise has helped shape programmes that strengthen relationships between Indigenous communities and legal institutions, improve representation, and promote fairness in judicial processes. His speaking style blends practical strategies with lived experience, ensuring that audiences leave with a deeper understanding and actionable tools to support reconciliation and systemic change.

Marsolais-Nahwegahbow’s career extends beyond justice reform to encompass broader community support and advocacy. As a Residential School Crisis Line Counsellor, he provided vital assistance to survivors, families, and those affected by the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) crisis. In his work with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (Resolution Individual Affairs Sector), he supported individuals seeking healing and justice, guiding them to resources aligned with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action. His commitment to addressing urgent infrastructure needs, such as ensuring access to safe and clean drinking water, has been a driving force behind his advocacy, alongside initiatives aimed at fostering Indigenous-led economic growth, education, and long-term community resilience.

His leadership and impact have been recognised through multiple prestigious honours, including the Waters Next People in Business Award (2019) for his contributions to clean water advocacy, the Indigenous Entrepreneur Award (2020) from Start-Up Canada for his achievements in business and social enterprise, the Alumni of Distinction – Community Services Award from Algonquin College for his service and leadership, and the Premier’s Award for Outstanding Ontario College Graduates (2019) for his influence in both business and social change. These awards reflect a career defined by excellence, innovation, and an unwavering dedication to improving the lives of Indigenous peoples across Canada.

Guided by the Seven Grandfather Teachings—humility, truth, respect, courage, honesty, wisdom, and love—Marsolais-Nahwegahbow continues to inspire audiences through his consulting work, public speaking, and community engagement. His work empowers organisations, leaders, and communities to take informed and meaningful action toward reconciliation, equity, and sustainable development.
