Lana Whiskeyjack is an accomplished visual storyteller known for her work in the fields of sexual health, Indigenous knowledge, arts-based practices, cultural revitalization and decolonization. She is a co-founder of okimaw kihew mekwanak, formerly known as Indigenous Parents and Friends of Lesbian and Gays, the first in Canada. Her community-based research explores language reclamation, gender and sexuality diversity, and rites of passages. She is featured in a documentary about confronting and transcending historical trauma through her arts-based practice titled, “Lana Gets Her Talk” (2017).

In addition to her academic pursuits, Whiskeyjack is involved in various community-based projects that aim to strengthen and celebrate nehiyaw culture, nehiyawewin (Cree language), as well as gender and sexual diversity.
