DR. LAURA HAMBLEY BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Laura Hambley is an Industrial and Organizational Psychologist with more than 25 years of expertise in leadership, workplace culture, and the psychology of work. She is recognized internationally for her evidence-based approach to eradicating toxic leadership and building thriving, human-centric organizations. Her mission is to help organizations and professionals create healthy environments where engagement, productivity, and mental well-being can coexist. Dr. Hambley works closely with executives, HR leaders, and teams to transform culture, strengthen leadership, and sustain high performance.
A pioneer in the future of work, Dr. Hambley predicted in her doctoral research that the workforce would evolve toward flexibility, mobility, and remote collaboration. Her expertise in hybrid and distributed work has guided organizations globally in adapting to post-pandemic realities. In 2013, she co-founded Work EvOHlution™, an award-winning start-up that developed the Distributed Work Profiler—the first personality profile designed specifically for remote workers. The innovation was featured in Scientific American and recognized by Alberta Venture magazine as one of the province’s most innovative ventures.
As an Adjunct Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Calgary, Dr. Hambley leads collaborative research on the behaviors and consequences of toxic leadership. Her academic work continues to inform her consulting and thought leadership on organizational resilience and employee well-being. Dr. Hambley is also an accomplished author. Her upcoming book, I Wish I’d Quit Sooner: Practical Strategies for Navigating and Escaping a Toxic Boss, will be released in 2026. She previously co-authored Growing the Virtual Workplace in 2008, a foundational text on remote work success.
Beyond her research and professional publications, Dr. Hambley has written two psychological thrillers, Losing Cadence and Finding Sophie, both being adapted for television. She shares insights and strategies with audiences around the world as a keynote speaker, focusing on thriving workplace cultures, eradicating toxic leadership, hybrid and remote success, and preventing burnout.
Dr. Hambley also reaches global audiences through her Where Work Meets Life™ podcast, where she explores how thriving workplaces depend on thriving humans. Her entrepreneurial journey includes founding several psychology and consulting practices, including Canada Career Counselling and Synthesis Psychology. Dr. Hambley’s work has been recognized through numerous honors, including the Woman of Distinction Award and the Canadian Woman of Inspiration Award as a Global Influencer. Philanthropy and community leadership are central to her career. She co-founded the WITH HER movement to end violence against girls and women and contributes to the Board of the Youth Singers of Calgary. Residing in Calgary, Dr. Hambley enjoys a vibrant home life with her partner and children, overlooking the Rocky Mountains.
