With a profound commitment to fostering peace and advancing social harmony, Lorelei's extensive portfolio showcases her remarkable contributions to community-based projects in Canada and abroad. Through these roles, Lorelei nurtures projects that specifically concentrate on fostering relations with Indigenous communities and enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

LORELEI HIGGINS PARKER BIOGRAPHY

Lorelei Higgins Parker is a Métis Canadian Cultural Mediator, a Rotary Peace Fellow and Positive Peace Activator as well as a Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Program alumna. She works on community-based projects locally and internationally with government agencies, non-government organizations and the business sector. These projects centre on peace and conflict transformation, Indigenous matters and the elevation of female voices in leadership. Lorelei has worked across the globe in communities in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America.

Lorelei Higgins Parker is the Community Lead for the City of Calgary’s Anti-Racism Program and is working to advance The City of Calgary’s commitments to anti-racism and Truth and Reconciliation. Lorelei is also a consultant with Mediators Beyond Borders International and Canadian Equity Consulting, cultivating projects that focus on Indigenous relations and enhanced diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging efforts. Lorelei has an MBA, with a specialization in leadership.

Lorelei’s dedication to cultivating pathways to international understanding and peace through community-based conflict transformation is born from significant events in her life. Her experience as an Indigenous female growing up in rural Alberta has fueled her passion to create positive change and impact outcomes for Indigenous peoples in particular. Lorelei’s life was transformed at a critical age by the influence of people who mentored her and helped her rise above her socio-economic circumstances. Much of her journey centres on her reconnection to her cultural roots and the opportunity to travel internationally as a youth as part of the Rotary International Youth Exchange. This rich inter-cultural immersion as a youth fueled Lorelei’s passion to help others on their path to rediscovering who they are and where they come from. With this, Lorelei Higgins Parker has changed the narrative of her family’s lived realities and her life trajectory. Her family lived in deep shame of identifying as Métis and Lorelei is one of the proudest advocates today for her community.

Lorelei Higgins Parker currently is leading research and publication efforts in collaboration with other Indigenous females globally that highlight the instrumental roles of Indigenous women and girls in creating community resilience and leading everyday peacebuilding efforts. Lorelei’s work highlights globally where across generations, female-led initiatives are making positive change. Lorelei’s work also explores the gendered impacts of climate change and increased environmental insecurity, with a focus on: how the climate crisis impacts Indigenous women and girls by exacerbating water, food and other forms of insecurity, especially in socio-political and emplaced sites of contestation: and how we can understand, center and highlight the unique roles, agency and contributions of Indigenous women in environmental conservation and the role that females play in the advancement of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being that strengthen communities’ resilience to climate change.

She is passionate about creating bold, open spaces for building peace through cross-cultural learning and the establishment and nurturing of enduring, positive relationships. As the reigning Mrs. Unity World Canada and Mrs. Canada Globe 2020-2023, Lorelei Higgins Parker  is leading efforts to increase female leadership in peacebuilding efforts locally and globally. She did not see a Métis sash, hear her language being spoken, see her traditional dance on an international pageant stage so she decided she would go and do just that!

Lorelei is often found adventuring around the world with her family.
