Dr. Vivian Ayoungman is a First Nation cultural revitalization expert, Indigenous education leader, and language preservation specialist from the Sayiiks Clan of the Siksika First Nation in Alberta, Canada. She has dedicated more than fifty years to advancing education systems that support Indigenous knowledge, language, and cultural continuity. Dr. Vivian Ayoungman holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary and three graduate degrees from Arizona State University, including advanced studies in education and leadership. Her academic foundation has supported a long-standing career across multiple levels of the education system.
Her career spans roles as a classroom teacher, student counsellor, vice-principal, curriculum developer, college administrator, university instructor, and executive director. Each role has contributed to her comprehensive understanding of educational structures and Indigenous learning needs. Dr. Vivian Ayoungman has contributed to education policy and program development through service on numerous boards and committees at local, national, and international levels. She has often served as a founding member, supporting institutional growth and long-term planning initiatives.
She is recognized as a 1992 Woman of Distinction in Education in Calgary and a Distinguished Alumni of the University of Calgary. These recognitions reflect her sustained contributions to education and community development. Her leadership includes her role as Executive Director of the First Nations Adult and Higher Education Consortium.
