About Nicole Robertson
Nicole Robertson is an award-winning media specialist and journalist with over three decades of experience promoting Indigenous representation through storytelling and strategic communications. A member of the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation in Treaty No. 6, she has worked across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, advancing public understanding of Indigenous Peoples through media, education, and advocacy. Nicole has collaborated with First Nations leadership, government, and industry on national communication strategies and has played a key role in educating on cultural protocols in media. Her work has been recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce Indigenous Business Award, and a feature in Phenomenal Female Entrepreneurs. She was the first Indigenous woman appointed to the Board of Travel Alberta.

Nicole Robertson is a renowned media specialist and Indigenous communicator who has dedicated over thirty years to raising awareness about Indigenous Peoples through journalism, film, and media training. Her career has taken her across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, where she has written, produced, and directed media content that promotes Indigenous brilliance and strengthens cultural understanding.
Nicole Robertson is a proud member of the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation in Treaty No. 6 and grounds her work in Indigenous worldviews and natural laws. Her professional journey has been guided by the values of truth, justice, courage, and benevolence, which continue to inform her collaborations with First Nations leadership, communities, governments, and private-sector partners on communication strategies and media platforms.
With a foundation in journalism, Nicole Robertson gained national recognition as a video journalist and producer for networks such as Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), Global Television, and CTV. She developed a reputation for her expertise in cultural protocols and ethical standards when engaging with First Nations communities, using media to build bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences.
Nicole Robertson has supported a range of communications initiatives for organizations including the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations, Treaty 7 Management Corporation, and the Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta. She has worked closely with National Chiefs and senior leadership to develop provincial and national communication strategies that elevate Indigenous voices and perspectives. Her media consulting work has extended to partnerships with the Assembly of First Nations, Alberta Cancer Board, United Way, and the First Nations Technical Services Advisory Group.
As a media trainer and educator, Nicole Robertson has provided presentation and communications training with various First Nations including, Cold Lake First Nation, Samson Cree Nation and Alexander First Nation. Her guidance on how to effectively navigate electronic media and respond to challenging interviews has empowered Indigenous leaders to convey their messages with clarity and confidence.
Nicole Robertson has hosted national broadcast programming such as Imagine Native and served as a producer and reporter for The Sharing Circle, one of Canada’s leading Indigenous current affairs programs. She has also held roles as a production associate with the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation and publicist for the Banff Centre for the Arts’ Aboriginal Arts Program, supporting the promotion of Indigenous performance and storytelling.
In addition to her media production and journalism work, Nicole Robertson has played an important role in strengthening Indigenous narratives in public discourse. She has worked as a Producer and Advisor with the Indigenous Screen Summit through the Banff World Media Festival and the Indigenous Screen Office. Her storytelling initiatives focus on narrative sovereignty and improving cultural understanding in mainstream screen industries.
Nicole Robertson’s professional achievements have been recognized in the book Phenomenal Female Entrepreneurs by Second Story Press, where she was profiled for her leadership and innovation. In 2009, she received the Aboriginal Woman Entrepreneur Award of Distinction from the Alberta Chamber of Commerce. Nicole produced the fourth season of the “Matriarch Movement” Podcast and the second season of “We Are Here” Podcast.
