PAUL ISAAK BIOGRAPHY
Paul Isaak is a senior leader with a distinguished 34-year career in policing. He dedicated nearly half of his career to the Forensic Crime Scene Investigative Unit, where he served as an investigator, supervisor, and Staff Sergeant in charge of the unit. During his tenure, he spearheaded key initiatives to equip the unit with advanced technologies, ensuring its operational readiness for the next decade.
Appointed by the Police Executive as the Wellness Officer, Isaak held this position for seven years. He oversaw the Post-Critical Incident Program, Peer Assistance Program, and the Chaplaincy Program. During this time, he achieved certification in Emergency Services Trauma Care from the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation in Baltimore, Maryland, and became an approved instructor in Group Crisis Intervention and Individual Peer Support.
The Critical Incident Program, under his leadership, supported members involved in life-threatening situations, fatal firearm discharges, exposure to traumatic death scenes, and incidents with personal significance, such as responding to the suicide of a friend or acquaintance. Collaborating with an in-house psychologist, Isaak facilitated hundreds of debriefing and diffusing sessions, assisting over 550 members and their families.
Isaak concluded his policing career overseeing city-wide operations, including the 911 emergency call center, which managed more than 275,000 service calls annually. His five years in this role provided invaluable experience in resource management and navigating the high-stakes priorities that define workplaces where decisions can have life-or-death consequences.
In 2021, amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Isaak transitioned to the healthcare sector. He served as the Shared Health Manager of Partner Relations and Central Services, where he demonstrated the transferability of his leadership principles to a new industry.
Having witnessed the profound impact of critical workplace events on employees, Isaak identified a gap in leadership training. This inspired him to author his first book, Through the Storm – How to Lead When Things Go Bad. The book equips leaders, supervisors, and managers with practical tools to support individuals experiencing personal or work-related crises.
Isaak’s expertise as a Critical Incident Program Coordinator, combined with his personal experiences as a cancer survivor and the loss of a close family member to violence, underpins his compassionate approach to leadership. He provides actionable strategies for engaging with individuals during their most challenging moments.
Today, Paul Isaak continues to apply his leadership principles as an international police consultant, keynote speaker, trainer, and educator. Drawing from his diverse professional experiences and personal life lessons, he inspires and empowers leaders to adopt a people-first approach to leadership.
