 PAUL KARVANIS BIOGRAPHY

Paul Karvanis is a former lawyer turned performance and happiness coach whose career spans the worlds of corporate law, leadership development, and personal transformation. Called to the Ontario bar in 2010, he spent nearly twelve years working in the legal profession across private, corporate, and public sectors before shifting his focus to coaching and speaking.

During his legal career, Paul Karvanis began on Bay Street at one of Canada’s top law firms, gaining first-hand experience in high-stakes corporate transactions. His work included complex public mergers and acquisitions valued at more than $500 million, shaping his ability to navigate challenges under pressure.

Later, in the private sector, Paul Karvanis joined a major international retailer where he applied his expertise to protect global trademarks and negotiate strategic agreements. He worked on deals involving some of the most iconic brands in history, including agreements tied to trademarks that had been in use for over two centuries.

In the public sector, Paul Karvanis contributed to transformative projects at a crown agency, including partnerships that redefined access to fare media for public transit in Toronto, Hamilton, and Ottawa. His work in this area advanced accessibility and reshaped how commuters experienced daily travel across these regions.

In 2017, Paul Karvanis trained as a coach with the Co-Active Training Institute, earning certification as a Professional Co-Active Coach. He later became a Professional Certified Coach through the International Coach Federation, a designation requiring more than 500 hours of coaching practice.

Through his company, Paul Karvanis offers individual coaching, facilitates group masterminds, and publishes thought leadership through his blog. His work emphasizes both personal and professional growth, guiding individuals to build clarity, resilience, and purpose in their leadership journeys.

Committed to excellence in public speaking, Paul Karvanis trained with Heroic Public Speaking, where he completed the intensive Grad 1 course. This training equipped him to design and deliver keynote presentations that combine research-based insights with practical strategies for personal transformation.

In March 2021, Paul Karvanis launched the Happy Lawyer Project, a two-year initiative that combined in-depth interviews with more than 100 lawyers and hundreds of hours of research and analysis. The central question of the project was how busy professionals can cultivate happiness and avoid burnout in demanding careers.

The insights gained from the Happy Lawyer Project became the foundation of a talk that identifies the specific habits and choices that differentiate happy professionals from those experiencing burnout. This work provides audiences with practical strategies for flourishing in both their personal and professional lives.

In 2023, Paul Karvanis published his first book, The Happy Lawyer: The Blueprint to Avoid Burnout and Put Together Your Good Life Personally and Professionally. The book quickly became an Amazon bestseller in its categories, reaching audiences across Canada and internationally.

Building on the success of this project, Paul Karvanis expanded his work beyond law to encompass professionals across industries. His signature presentation, “Happy and High Performing,” draws on these findings to equip audiences with actionable frameworks for sustaining energy, well-being, and productivity.

As a coach and speaker, Paul Karvanis focuses on the intersection of happiness and high performance, demonstrating that personal fulfillment and professional achievement are deeply connected. His approach blends evidence-based strategies with lived experience, offering audiences tools that are both practical and transformative.

Outside of his professional commitments, Paul Karvanis lives in Toronto with his wife and their children. He balances his career with personal pursuits including soccer, indoor bouldering, and writing fiction, which allow him to explore creativity and maintain well-being in his own life.

Paul Karvanis continues to inspire audiences by showing that happiness is not separate from success but an essential ingredient for sustainable performance. His journey from law to coaching reflects a deep commitment to helping others build meaningful, balanced, and flourishing lives.

"Paul joined us to delivery his Happy Lawyer Talk, and it was both instructive and thought provoking for our students and associates alike. Paul’s delivery is excellent and engaging, and allows each participant to reflect on his insights and data to expand on their own life experiences, both in law and personally. As an added bonus, even after he left, his content left us still connecting, debating and applying the principles he shared. All in all, a great presentation and resource!"

Yoni Silberman

"The Happy Lawyer talk is very interesting with valuable substantive content, but where this talk shines is in the stories which both challenged me and helped me question my perspective on some fundamental issues I had been taking for granted. I’ve also found the action plan that comes out of it personally valuable. I would definitely recommend this to anyone considering it."
