KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Edmonton, Alberta

Motivational Speaker | Awards Winner Radio Host | Fundraising Expert

Chris Scheetz has spent the past 35 years living his dream working at his favourite radio station in every role and influencing the community he lives in. He's never forgotten his country's "farm kid" roots and feels like they continue to have a great influence on his life and career. Chris has raised millions of dollars for charity in many unique ways, helping his community rally for people in need. He has a unique journey to share that will inspire audiences to reach for their dreams and never give up and also help them find creative ways to make this world a better place. As he closes the CISN COUNTRY chapter of his life, he looks forward to the future of continuing to help and inspire people.

CHRIS SCHEETZ BIOGRAPHY

Chris Scheetz, growing up on a farm in central Alberta, spent countless hours on a tractor, where the radio was the only source of entertainment available. As a kid, he dreamed of reaching out through the speakers and connecting with people like the announcers he listened to on that tractor seat.

After graduating high school, Chris Scheetz went to broadcasting school in Edmonton, and then against all odds lucked into a job at the very radio station he listened to while in the tractor all those years, CISN Country 103.9. He began in the promotions department in 1989 and has since done almost every job possible at the station. His gift of connecting with audiences began while hosting the overnight show for over a decade. Since then, he’s interviewed the biggest stars in country music and entertainment including Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, and even President Jimmy Carter, making him an effective communication expert. He did almost every job possible in his 35 year career including  co-hosting  CISN’s award-winning morning show.

Chris Scheetz is most known for his promotional stunts to raise awareness and money for important causes in his community. In 2003, Chris lived in a tractor for a week while broadcasting to fundraise for farmers affected by a once-in-a-lifetime drought. A few years later, the agricultural community took another hit when the BSE (Mad Cow) disease closed the Canada/US Border for Canadian beef exports. Chris, along with thousands of supporters, drove over 700 kilometres from Edmonton to the Canadian border, where a Canadian beef BBQ along with a country music concert was held to help cattle ranchers.

His gift of connecting with others is reflected in his fundraising efforts. Over the last 24 years, Chris has helped raise almost 30 million dollars for the Stollery Children’s Hospital through their annual radiothon, a two-day event held on CISN Country through which Chris has shared the stories of the children and families who need medical care at the Stollery, helping the hospital continue to provide world-class care. He’s also a driving force in the annual fundraising event for Edmonton’s Hope Mission, through which over 10 million dollars has been raised. For over 15 years, he’s done everything from living on the street to spending days on cranes hundreds of feet above the Mission headquarters to broadcasting from the field at Commonwealth Stadium to encourage people to donate to the Hope Mission.

Chris Scheetz has won the Canadian Country Music Major Market Personality of the Year award five times and has also spent three years on the CCMA board of directors. He’s worked very closely with many other charities over the years including Ronald McDonald House and Alzheimer’s Society. Over his career, Chris has spoken at and hosted hundreds of events including being the on-field announcer for the Edmonton Elks football team for 17 years, during which he hosted two Grey Cups.

As important as his 35 years on the radio have been to him, it’s his family—Karen, his wife of over 30 years, and his children, Baillie and husband Renato, and Carter and his wife Lesslie—that is his pride and joy.

Chris Scheetz has spent his life inspiring positive change in his community through storytelling, and he can connect with people that have taken him from the tractor seat to the radio booth and beyond.

Chris Scheetz is used to waking up at the crack of dawn as co-host of the morning show on CISN-FM. But he’s not used to ushering in a new day from a cardboard box outside the Hope Mission Shelter on 106 Avenue. And that’s exactly where the successful radio personality and father of two found himself last Thursday morning after taking on a role most people would balk at – homeless man. Scheetz volunteered to live on the streets for two days in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Edmonton’s Hope Mission.
