Mike Shoreman Biography

Mike Shoreman is an accessibility educator, mental health speaker, corporate consultant, author, and Rick Hansen Foundation Inclusion & Accessibility Training Facilitator whose work focuses on accessibility, customer experience, resilience, and organizational performance. Mike Shoreman helps organizations examine how accessibility affects customers, guests, employees, clients, fans, and communities, with particular attention to communication, participation, service delivery, and workplace culture. His presentations connect lived experience with practical approaches that help teams identify barriers and improve inclusive communication.

In 2018, Mike Shoreman was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, a neurological condition that affected his mobility, speech, vision, and hearing. Before his diagnosis, Mike Shoreman was an entrepreneur, business leader, and nationally recognized Paddle Canada coach. The changes to his health affected his business, independence, finances, and social connections and contributed to a serious mental health crisis. This period became the foundation for his later work in mental health education, resilience, and human connection.

Mike Shoreman later became the first person to paddle board across all five Great Lakes, completing a national campaign that raised awareness and support for youth mental health programs across Canada. Through this initiative, Mike Shoreman combined endurance, public education, and advocacy to bring attention to access to mental health programs and services for young people. His paddle board was inducted into The Canadian Canoe Museum in 2024, recognizing the significance of the Great Lakes campaign.

As an accessibility educator and consultant, Mike Shoreman works with organizations to move accessibility beyond policy and compliance and into everyday customer and employee experiences. Mike Shoreman addresses barriers that can emerge in communication, accommodation requests, hidden disabilities, service animal interactions, customer service, and workplace practices. His work also examines how accessibility can influence participation, loyalty, reputation, employee experience, and business performance.

Mike Shoreman is the author of two best selling books, and his work and personal story have received national and international media coverage. Mike Shoreman has been featured in People Magazine, CBC, CTV, Breakfast Television, FOX News, The Chicago Tribune, and the National Post, and his story has also been documented in an award winning film. His public work has focused on accessibility, disability inclusion, mental health, resilience, and the ways organizations can create more inclusive experiences for the people they serve.

Mike Shoreman has received the King Charles III Coronation Medal, the National Mental Health Leadership Award from the Mood Disorders Society of Canada, and Changemaker of the Year from the Council of the Great Lakes Region. Mike Shoreman was also named to the Diversability Disability Impact List in 2024 and 2025 as one of the most influential disabled people globally and has been recognized by the Prime Minister of Canada. Today, his presentations and consulting bring together accessibility expertise, lived experience, mental health education, customer experience, and practical organizational insight for workplaces, conferences, associations, and community audiences.
