Both are published worldwide by Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster. Shannon is also an internationally recognized advocate of restorative justice, a powerful speaker, one of the “world’s 50 most resilient people” (Global Resilience Project), a New York Times “Woman in the World” recommended writer, and is featured by the International Forgiveness Project.

Shannon Moroney travels extensively to lead transformative forgiveness and healing retreats for people and communities overcoming trauma, and to keynote justice and mental health conferences.

Shannon has provided expert testimony in court, consultation on crime bills, and she supports attorneys to provide trauma-informed advocacy to victims of sex crimes.

Through the Glass - One Woman's Pursuit of Justice, Healing and Forgiveness

  • Using photos and artwork, Shannon recounts her journey following the violent crimes and life-sentencing of her first husband. In so doing, she addresses the implicit dangers of a correctional system and a society that prioritizes punishment over rehabilitation, and victimhood over recovery. Moroney candidly shares the agony and helplessness she felt toward her husband’s assault victims and articulates her painful transition from being a respected professional, homeowner and active community member one day, to being the wife of a sex offender the next. She touches the heart and mind of every audience member with her ultimate choice to forgive, and how she made that choice.

Writing What Hurts - Recounting without Reliving

  • Geared toward seasoned and novice writers as well as literature lovers, this presentation offers wisdom and advice on caring for oneself and one’s manuscript while writing about trauma and difficult times. Shannon shares her writing journey and discusses the private and public experience of opening her heart and memory, and provides the audience with practical tools for their writing. Whether the goal is to publish, document a journey, or to find personal healing, participants will come away with tools and resources to guide the process. Recounting doesn’t have to mean reliving.

Resilience Inside Out - How People and Communities Can Overcome Trauma and Build Peace

  • Is resilience something you’re born with or something you can develop? What makes a person, community or society elastic and able to overcome life’s challenges, big and small? Sharing her journey to recover from the trauma of her husband’s violent crimes, and her extensive knowledge of the peace-building process worldwide, Shannon Moroney engages the audience in a bigger understanding of what “being elastic” is all about and offers practical advice for building resilience in yourself and your family, workplace, school, community and society.

Forgiveness is the New F Word

  • Shannon shares her own story, and then expertly facilitates group activities, story-telling and personal reflections designed to connect each participant to their own story, offering philosophical and practical tools for freedom from resentment, anger, victimhood and shame. This life-changing workshop can be delivered in a multitude of settings, from an afternoon conference in a big-city hotel to a multi-day retreat in the wilderness. It is perfect for staff teams at helping organizations, recovery groups, bereavement groups, prison inmates and parolees, and families, communities & countries in conflict.
