SHINA NOVA BIOGRAPHY

Shina Nova, born Shina Novalinga, is an Inuk throat singer, social media personality, and cultural ambassador whose work is dedicated to preserving and sharing Inuit traditions with audiences worldwide. Born in Canada, she grew up deeply connected to her Indigenous heritage, learning traditional throat singing from her mother, Caroline Novalinga. This ancient Inuit art form, once performed as a game or form of entertainment between women, became a central part of Shina’s identity and the foundation of her cultural advocacy.

Shina rose to prominence through TikTok and Instagram, where her captivating throat singing performances, often alongside her mother, have garnered millions of followers. Her videos do more than showcase talent; they serve as living lessons in history, culture, and resilience, educating global audiences about the significance of Inuit traditions. She blends artistry with education, using her platform to address broader issues such as the preservation of Indigenous languages, climate change, and the need for authentic representation in media.

Beyond her social media presence, Shina has become a recognized figure in fashion, media, and advocacy. She has collaborated with major brands and Indigenous designers to model traditional Inuit clothing, including parkas and handcrafted accessories that highlight the artistry of Indigenous makers. Her work champions cultural pride while creating economic opportunities for Indigenous artisans. Shina’s advocacy extends to supporting Indigenous-owned businesses and amplifying the voices of other creators working to protect cultural heritage.

In 2021, Shina published Navigating My Inuit Culture, a book chronicling her personal journey of reconnecting with her roots, embracing her identity, and navigating the challenges of balancing tradition with modern life. The book emphasizes the importance of intergenerational knowledge, cultural revival, and the resilience of Indigenous youth.

Her contributions have earned her recognition and speaking engagements at events focused on Indigenous rights, diversity in media, and cultural preservation. Whether performing, modeling, or speaking, Shina’s work consistently bridges traditional practices with contemporary platforms, ensuring that Inuit culture remains visible and relevant.

Through her music, storytelling, and advocacy, Shina Novalinga continues to inspire audiences across the globe. She demonstrates that cultural traditions can thrive in modern spaces while honoring their origins, fostering understanding, and encouraging respect for Indigenous heritage.
