JIM BRAYSHAW BIOGRAPHY

Jim Brayshaw is a former Fire Fighter, Fire Captain, and a leader in mental health education and support. His work has involved partnering with local, regional, and global organizations to develop and deliver mental health strategies and programs that foster wellness and a culture of psychological health and safety. His support has been vital in promoting hope, vulnerability, trust, and restoration for those experiencing overwhelming life challenges.

Jim Brayshaw draws on decades of experience in Mental Health education, including Resilient Minds training for Firefighters, Critical Incident Stress Management, Peer Support Team development, and Leadership training. He has also enjoyed years of collaboration with his partner, providing Wellness and Psychoeducational programs, such as Sask Mental Health Training & Supports.

His sessions inspire companies and individuals to expand their capacity to cope with the psychological impacts of the workplace. His presentations encourage improved peer support and deeper relationships with both self and others. Jim Brayshaw’s Artful Communication strengthens groups working in high-stress environments, such as Healthcare professionals, Community Organizations, Business Leaders, Safety professionals, Executive Teams, and First Responder organizations. His sessions have motivated these groups to care for each other and themselves, and audiences appreciate his genuine and engaging energy.

Jim Brayshaw brings his respectful, honest, and kind communication skills to the stage, having tested them in difficult arenas like the Firehall Coffee table—an intense training ground for communication where ego often seeks an audience. He shares insights into how workplace or social settings, influenced by ego, can lead to the misuse of social influence, resulting in colleagues being placed in unsafe environments, and becoming targets of teasing and indignity.

Creating a thoughtful, safe, and comfortable audience experience is central to Jim Brayshaw’s work. He collaborates with audiences, ensuring a genuine and welcoming environment, especially when discussing topics that can feel uncomfortable or unsafe. His presentations make every space safer and more supportive, encouraging participants to build trust and improve wellness.

From designing educational programs that promote emotional and mental health to working with large and small audiences, Jim Brayshaw has helped advance social connections and psychological safety. His edutaining style and scientific explanations help participants understand the underlying causes of unease and distress. He is committed to offering a model for thoughtful support through early intervention, emphasizing that understanding the “Why” behind a challenge allows us to find the “How” to dismantle it and restore wellness. Whether in workshops or large presentations, Jim Brayshaw opens paths to improved emotional and mental well-being, fostering psychologically safer environments in both the workplace and life.

Supporting Through Change, Uncertainty, and Hopefatigue: How To Come Out the Other Side Intact

  • Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
  • In this session, Jim Brayshaw will be discussing how the forces of change can lead to a Transition Crisis. Change happens to us and Transition happens because of us. Transitioning successfully from change, means we intentionally employ skills ahead of the change to avoid the unwanted outcomes from “Transition Crisis” that can come months after that change.

Together in this presentation we learn insights and strategies for leaders of all levels who support staff during change. Jim Brayshaw offers strategies for trauma-informed communication, and we explore how the impact from change depends on one’s Tolerance of Uncertainty and their perceived lack of control.

We will understand ways to recognize and respond when we notice some of the transition crisis signs of distress, such as apathy, passive aggressive behaviors, anxiety, depression, lower productivity, substance use, or even suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

In this presentation, Jim Brayshaw offers a simple strategy to help you find the words that won’t build barriers during difficult change. Rather, we make language choices to keep our supportive communication moving forward.

This session will also discuss the value of knowing your identity to be resilient through change. Identify includes knowing and anchoring to ones Core Values. What are your Core Values? Do you know them, live them, and do you know how to reconcile a conflict of Core Values that can lead to self-doubt, lowered confidence, and unwanted reactions to change?

This presentation will also unravel Hope-fatigue. Hope-fatigue is a serious setback to wellness that many are experiencing from unrelenting change. In this session we find ways to restore HOPE in a culture of hope-fatigue and bring a little bit of hope into our lives and our world…making the next hours, days, and weeks more productive, positive, fulfilling, and meaningful.
