Where Has All the Trust Gone… and How Do We Get It Back?
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
In this presentation, Jim Brayshaw brings us a conversation on what causes trust to plummet, how do we restore it, and what drives it forward.
Trust is a complex phenomenon that is a key requirement for human well-being, social cohesion, and economic development. Trust affects all domains of life, such as families, society, workplace, and government, and it impacts the quality of relationships in a multitude of ways. We learn the reasons why trust starts to plummet in times of crisis, stress, isolation, uncertainty, and change.
In this presentation, we learn about the roots of trust, the neuroscience of trust, and the spectrum of trust. We see trust is on a spectrum that varies and can change over time and situations. We explore how trust affects the brain and the body, influencing our emotions, cognition, stress response, anxiety, and inflammation levels.
We also learn the ways trust impacts families, society, workplaces, government, and other domains…as well as how these same areas can in turn affect trust.
In this presentation we see how trust is a currency in work, life, and relationships, and how accepting where we are at on the trust spectrum, gives us the power to choose to trust a little bit more. We can gain skills to choose the appropriate level of trust for different situations and goals, and through developing and practicing trust skills in daily life, we will enjoy the rewards of peace and improved relationships that each of us deserves. By using a simple and practical strength-based strategy that identifies pockets of trust in our life, this presentation helps audiences to improve trust skills and enjoy all the benefits that come from taking control of trust to improve our experience of work and life.
Crossing the Fire Line: Risk, Reward & Trust in the Fire Service, First Responder World, and Beyond
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
Former Fire Captain, Jim Brayshaw, serves as a Mental Health Educator, Peer Support Team Developer, & Critical Incident Stress Team-builder. In this presentation, Jim Brayshaw digs into the complicated daily risks for Firefighters and First Responders. How I risk my ‘life’ everyday may be related to the exposure from potentially traumatic events, life-threatening situations, moral injury, and human suffering. But psychosocial factors in the day-to-day are being ignored and causing harm to the health and wellness of our people.
In this session we will explore the trust issues, the risk, and the rewards seldom talked about in this industry. Fire Halls and First Responder environments are places where ego loves an audience. At times, in this highly social environment, an employee becomes a target for teasing, ridicule, or degrading comments. This can lead to a loss of motivation for staff to “clock-in”. For decades, Firefighters, Medics, Police Officers, Emergency Workers, and Employees in all sectors, have been shifting toward the end of toxic behaviors and attitudes. This makes way for a workplace committed to caring for each other’s physical & emotional wellness.
In this presentation, we look carefully at this reality to gain insights into restoring true safety in this industry. As well, we identify steps to reverse the epidemic of employee dis-engagement that can be seared into the First Responder workplace. When employees live with psychological risk and see a disconnect in corporate values such as Trust, Integrity, Respect, Courage, & Safety, we can answer the call and find out how to turn this rig around to restore a trusting, safe, psychologically healthy workplace.
Emotional Regulation for Wellbeing: They Didn’t Teach This in Grade School
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
Are you in control of your emotions or are your emotions in control of you?
When emotional regulation is out of balance, the impact on our Wellness can be a cascading negative experience. Emotional regulation isn’t just for grocery shopping and traffic jams…We need regulation to be successful in all of life. So, let’s talk about emotional regulation, and put this core human element for improving humans, back on track. Emotional Regulation makes life, work, sleep, relationships, and mental health better
In this presentation, we will learn how Emotional regulation is about adaptation, an evolutionary human “superpower”. A superpower where we can become experts in the process of, identifying, managing, and expressing our emotions in adaptive ways. Whether we are in the C-suite of the corporate eco-sphere making decisions, front-line workers, or the youngest and newest employee on the payroll, Emotional Regulation is a skill to that is a gold-mine to improve all human interactions.
However, many people struggle with emotional regulation and face negative consequences in areas such as, relationship conflict, weakened social skills, decreased immune function, sleep issues, recovery problems, stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and reduced cognitive abilities to name a few. This can be remedied.
In this presentation, we improve our emotional regulation skills. This human improvement opportunity is based on the five-step model including; situation selection, situation modification, attentional deployment, cognitive change, and response modulation. Brayshaw shows how to apply these steps and how to cope with the challenges of emotional regulation. By the end of this presentation, we have a better understanding of our emotions and how to regulate them effectively, finding areas each of us as humans can improve on. After all, when we improve humans, we improve performance… in all areas of life including our work.
The Boundless Effects of Good Boundaries.
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
In this presentation Jim Brayshaw introduces you to seven types of boundaries: mental, emotional, material, internal, conversational, physical, time.
We discuss how each type of boundary is essential for protecting our well-being and living in alignment with our values and beliefs. We will also explore how to identify the areas of our lives where we need to set boundaries and how to communicate them effectively.
Participant groups delve into why we break our boundaries and let others step across them. We will examine the reasons behind this behavior, such as not wanting to disappoint a colleague, family member, or friend. Possibly, some of us may fear rejection or abandonment, have low self-esteem, or a desire to please others. We will also discuss the negative consequences such as burnout, resentment, and relationship problems from not setting or enforcing our boundaries.
Jim Brayshaw will bring strategies to protect your boundaries. We explore different techniques for setting and communicating our boundaries effectively, including how to choose language thoughtfully instead of out of a fear or from a threat response. We explore being assertive about our boundaries while committing to doing so using respectful communication. This presentation explores what setting consequences for boundary violations looks like. And we discuss how to recognize when our boundaries are being tested or violated and how to respond appropriately.
Along the way in this presentation, participants will have a chance to motivate each other and discuss setting and enforcing their boundaries in different scenarios.
By the end of the session, participants will have a better understanding of their own boundaries and how to protect them effectively. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of Jim Brayshaw, share their experiences and receive feedback from others in a supportive environment.

How Words Can Make You Sick: This Is Way Deeper the What Stick and Stones Can Do
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
Not every word will make us sick but there are REAL consequences, in self and others, from the words used every day. In this Presentation we consider the feeling of a word and the internal bio-chemical impact of some of the language and words we use and hear?
When assessing corporate success and health we often say “follow the money” and the path will show us. But what we can choose to explore in this presentation, is a path to take our mental, psychological, and emotional health to a new and better place of success. No money to follow here, we just need to “follow the words” to see how our investment in language is paying off when communicating with self and others.
Words do have the power to change us and even the power to make us sick?
At times a stress-hormone-inducing word, has power to affect our energy, our productivity, and our happiness. In this presentation, we learn the answer to how they can trigger great chemistry or destructive chemistry by examining the path of our words. If a word has the force to ignite a fire for good inside of us or to set off a cold chill of despair, it is time we choose to let the words we use be infused with a choice for igniting the good.
Sometimes We Get in A Rut: Do You Know How to Get Out of One?
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
The Neural Rut happens because your brain’s job is not to keep you HAPPY, it’s job is to keep you ALIVE…it is constantly looking for efficiencies.
Each one of us does things that are AUTOMATED…and when it comes to growth and development, this is a Neural Rut.
In this Presentation we are nudged out of a Neural Rut to find strategies to shift thoughtfully away from the AUTOMATED behaviors, words, and thoughts we have…We will learn that when we do, we can experience a revitalized moment, day, week, month or even a lifetime ahead.
There is no greater way to improve performance than through improving humans…and this presentation ignites us to do better…by exploring and altering one Neural rut at a time you will improve your performance because you have improved as a human.

Our talented team members then will work with our talent directly or their agent/manager/assistant to confirm the Canadian speaker fee and travel expenses, so that event planning teams can receive an official quote for the speaker appearing at the event. Speaker fees and travel costs vary per speaker and our role is to contact Jim Brayshaw about your event, after we have connected with the event organizers to learn all the event details and/or conference program. Each booking request is unique since session durations and audience sizes can vary which may affect the speaker's fees. If you are looking to hire Jim Brayshaw, we recommend filling out the booking request form so a booking agent from Speakers Bureau Canada can get in touch with our talent to help you coordinate with your team to engage the speaker for a successful event.
