JOLA ADENIJI BIOGRAPHY

Jola Adeniji is an artist–activist, cultural strategist, and founder of Macanjy Art Inc. who integrates art, leadership, and civic transformation. His work merges hyper-realistic abstraction with Yoruba symbolism to create visual and participatory experiences that address migration, belonging, and community resilience. Born in Lagos and now based in Canada, Jola Adeniji’s artistic practice is grounded in the histories and spiritual technologies that communities use to heal, adapt, and thrive. His projects invite participants to engage art as a public process of reflection and renewal, transforming cultural expression into a catalyst for change.

In 2023, Jola Adeniji launched Silent Narrative, a national solo exhibition tour that travels across Canada through galleries, public institutions, and community venues. The tour functions as a civic intervention, integrating visual art with storytelling, workshops, and live rituals that connect audiences to collective memory and dialogue. Silent Narrative includes modular installations and participatory performances that encourage viewers to become witnesses and collaborators. The tour has engaged diverse audiences in cities across Canada and has expanded the definition of exhibition to include civic discourse and community action.

Jola Adeniji has collaborated with Calgary Arts Development, TRUCK Contemporary Art, Antyx Community Arts, YYC BUMP Festival, ATB Enterprise Gallery, and the Centre for Newcomers. His partnerships bridge sectors and disciplines, linking cultural production with education, health, and municipal development. His advocacy extends beyond the studio into civic leadership. Jola Adeniji has addressed Calgary City Council on the role of artists in urban planning and affordable housing, met with provincial leaders on cultural policy, and contributed diversity and inclusion insights to the Canadian Armed Forces.

As a speaker, Jola Adeniji translates creative frameworks into actionable strategies for leaders, educators, and organizations. He teaches how to design creative systems that structure focus, maintain purpose, and generate measurable impact rather than chasing outcomes. Drawing from his experience as a former TD Bank advisor and current artistic director, Jola Adeniji brings a rare fluency between business, community, and cultural sectors. His cross-disciplinary background enables him to demonstrate how artistic methods can strengthen organizational design and decision-making.

His sessions address themes of neurodiversity, resilience, and inclusion, offering practical insights for teams navigating constant change. He shares sensory-aware routines that support focus for neurodivergent thinkers and frameworks that use story architecture to deepen communication and influence. Jola Adeniji’s philosophy, “I never chase a dream; I design it,” defines his creative and professional approach. It reflects a disciplined process of building the systems and agreements that sustain innovation and integrity over time.

He works to position art as a public health strategy and as an essential part of civic infrastructure. His practice demonstrates how creativity can connect individual experience to policy, leadership, and collective wellbeing. Jola Adeniji’s core themes include art for social change, belonging and migration, creative entrepreneurship, and the role of culture in city-building. His vision is to make art a commons where truth is expressed, metabolized, and carried into action by the communities who experience it. Through his work, Jola Adeniji continues to expand how culture is understood and practiced in Canada. His art, teaching, and advocacy collectively redefine creativity as a tool for transformation that belongs to everyone.
