About Speaker Paul Karvanis

Most professionals who struggle are not lacking effort. Two issues stand in the way of performance. First, they misread what is expected of them, missing unspoken signals and receiving feedback without knowing how to turn it into meaningful improvement. Second, they structure their work in ways that are difficult to sustain, making long term success harder to achieve. Over time, these challenges create a gap between effort and results. Paul Karvanis helps individuals close that gap. Drawing on nearly 12 years in high performance environments across Bay Street law, in house, and the public sector, along with insights from 150 interviews with professionals and leaders, he helps people better interpret expectations, apply feedback effectively, and build sustainable habits that improve performance. His sessions are practical, structured, and designed to change how people work immediately.

Paul Karvanis’ second book, The Successful Associate, is based on nearly 50 interviews with partners, talent leaders, and senior professionals. It explores the hidden drivers of success in client service environments, focusing on how professionals build credibility, understand expectations, strengthen relationships, and accelerate their development.

"Paul joined us to delivery his Happy Lawyer Talk, and it was both instructive and thought provoking for our students and associates alike. Paul’s delivery is excellent and engaging, and allows each participant to reflect on his insights and data to expand on their own life experiences, both in law and personally. As an added bonus, even after he left, his content left us still connecting, debating and applying the principles he shared. All in all, a great presentation and resource!"

Yoni Silberman

Partner

"The Happy Lawyer talk is very interesting with valuable substantive content, but where this talk shines is in the stories which both challenged me and helped me question my perspective on some fundamental issues I had been taking for granted. I’ve also found the action plan that comes out of it personally valuable. I would definitely recommend this to anyone considering it."
