Peter Mansbridge is one of Canada’s most respected journalists, known for his expertise in political, economic, and cultural reporting. As the chief correspondent and anchor of The National for 30 years, he became a household name, sharing stories that defined Canada’s national identity and heritage.
Mansbridge began his career with CBC in 1968 in Fort Churchill, Manitoba, where he helped establish CBC Radio’s news service for Northern Canada. By 1971, he transitioned to reporting for CBC Radio before moving to CBC Television in 1972. His talent and dedication led him to become a reporter for The National in 1975. He later served as the program’s parliamentary correspondent in Ottawa, covering key political developments. In 1988, he was appointed chief correspondent and anchor, a role he held for three decades. He also anchored CBC News specials and hosted the widely acclaimed interview program, Mansbridge One on One.
Throughout his remarkable career spanning 50 years, Mansbridge covered historic Canadian and international events. He reported on the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and numerous Olympic Games. He covered 34 Canada Day celebrations, 12 Remembrance Day ceremonies, four D-Day anniversaries, and every royal visit since 1970. His political coverage is unparalleled, having reported on every federal election since 1972 and anchoring all ten since 1984. Over his career, he conducted nearly 15,000 interviews, engaging with Canadian and global leaders.

He also serves as the Honorary Colonel of Canada’s Special Operations Regiment.

As president of Manscorp Media Services, he develops documentary films, continuing his mission to inform and educate. He also hosts The Bridge, Canada’s leading political podcast, providing in-depth analysis of current affairs.
