The Performance Paradox: Why Slowing Down Helps You Speed Up
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
In a world filled with uncertainty and constant pressure to achieve more, the instinct is often to accelerate — to do more, faster. But science tells a different story: relentless activity without adequate rest leads to overwhelm, burnout, and diminished performance.
Leaders and their teams often overlook a critical component of high performance: strategic rest. The key isn’t just doing more but achieving more by aligning with the natural physiology of the human body and mind.
In this presentation, Dr. Greg Wells, human physiologist and bestselling author, uncovers the paradox that slowing down can accelerate success. Drawing from his book, Rest, Refocus, Recharge, he shares how embracing cycles of work and rest unlocks abilities otherwise blocked by constant stress and pressure, while exploring the five distinct brainwave states and how leaders can intentionally harness each one to improve focus, enhance learning, foster creativity, and achieve peak performance.
In this session, audiences will learn:
- The physiology of rest: Why your brain isn’t designed for constant “go mode” and how continuous work undermines performance.
- The five brain states: How to identify and leverage beta, alpha, theta, delta, and gamma brainwave states for focus, learning, creativity, and peak performance.
- Strategic rest techniques: Practical methods to incorporate rest and recovery into your daily routine to boost productivity and mental well-being.
- Enhancing innovation: How slowing down unlocks your ability to think strategically, solve problems, and innovate.
- Preventing burnout: Strategies to balance work and rest to sustain high performance without sacrificing health.
This keynote offers actionable insights into how slowing down can help you speed up through the science of rest and its profound impact on health and performance. Audiences will leave with actionable tools to incorporate strategic recovery and regeneration into their personal and professional lives, feeling recharged and equipped to achieve more by doing less.
