Dr. Sarika Cullis-Suzuki is a marine biologist, ocean conservation expert, and science communicator whose career integrates scientific research, public engagement, and environmental media. Trained as a marine biologist, Dr. Sarika Cullis-Suzuki holds a PhD and MSc in Marine Biology, supported by undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Her academic research has addressed global overfishing, the ecological impacts of underwater noise, and long term ocean health.

Dr. Sarika Cullis-Suzuki completed her doctoral research at the University of York under the supervision of Callum Roberts, examining how noise pollution affects fish behaviour and ecosystems. Her master’s research at the University of British Columbia, conducted with Daniel Pauly, contributed to international discussions on fisheries sustainability and was presented to the United Nations.

Her scientific fieldwork has taken Dr. Sarika Cullis-Suzuki from remote tropical archipelagos to the high seas and coastal intertidal zones of British Columbia. This global perspective informs her approach to conservation, climate change, and ocean governance.

Dr. Sarika Cullis-Suzuki is co host of The Nature of Things on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, one of Canada’s longest running and most respected science documentary series. Her work on the program includes hosting, writing, and shaping science narratives for broad audiences.

In addition to her work with CBC, Dr. Sarika Cullis-Suzuki has hosted and written documentaries for the National Film Board of Canada, Parks Canada, Ocean Networks Canada, Audible, PBS, and The Knowledge Network. These projects address marine conservation, biodiversity, climate change, and human relationships with nature.

Her documentary work has received significant industry recognition, including nominations for Best Host at the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers and awards for best documentary, best host, and best screenwriting.
