GEORGETTE REED BIOGRAPHY
Georgette Reed is a highly accomplished individual with a diverse background in sports, fitness, health, and wellness. She has had an amazing career as a former multi-sport athlete and Olympian, competing in various sports such as athletics, bobsleigh, swimming, and water polo. With over 49 years of competitive and lived experience, Georgette has achieved remarkable success and represented Canada in numerous international events.
Georgette Reed holds a Master of Arts Degree in Physical Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Administration and Communications from Washington State University. She attended the same university as her father, the legendary Canadian Football League Hall of Famer George Reed. Georgette excelled as an athlete during her time at Washington State University, becoming an All-American in the shot put and setting a record that still stands today. Today Georgette and her father are the only father-daughter duo in the WSU Sports Hall of Fame.
During Georgette’s athletic career, some of her accomplishments included participation in the shot put at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain as well as representing Canada in the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton and the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, B.C. Throughout her career, she achieved a remarkable 17 national titles, including 15 in shot put and 2 in discus.
After retiring from competitive sports, Georgette Reed embarked on a successful career in the field of health and wellness. She worked as the Health and Wellness Coordinator for Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, where she contributed to the well-being of the department’s personnel. She also served as the head coach of cross country, track and field at the University of Alberta for a decade, mentoring and developing champions at the provincial, national, and international levels.
Georgette’s passion for promoting the synergy between physical and mental health led her to become the first female Director of Athletics and Recreation at Capilano University in North Vancouver, BC. In this role, she is responsible for designing and implementing proactive programs that prioritize health in all its iterations, drawing from her extensive experience as an athlete, coach, and consultant. She also leverages her expertise in working with local government bodies and Canadian sport delivery systems for strategic planning and fiscal responsibilities to prioritize physical health, wellness and mental health initiatives on campus.
As a Health and Wellness Professional, Georgette utilizes her life lessons, education, and leadership skills to inspire others to achieve mental and physical well-being. Georgette Reed delivers presentations that blend motivational storytelling with science-based solutions, focusing on topics such as leadership, teamwork, effective communication, determination, burnout prevention, life balance, self-care, stress management, fitness, nutrition, and trauma resilience.
