RANDY KOLIBABA BIOGRAPHY

A critically acclaimed speaker and best-selling author, Randy Kolibaba accurately and seamlessly weaves the information he’s trying to convey into gripping true stories from his own experience. Many have referred to his presentations as informative and both inspirational and truly life-altering.

Randy Kolibaba is a results-driven former high-ranking and highly decorated Commissioned Officer within Canada’s national police force, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).  As a senior commander of the RCMP tasked with responding to large-scale man-made or natural disasters, or leading large multi-discipline policing units including one of the RCMP’s Emergency Response Teams (Special Weapons and Tactics team), Randy has been formally recognized twice, once by the Government of Canada and secondly by Her Majesty the Queen of England for distinguished service to Canada.

Randy Kolibaba provided policing services to First Nations people for almost two decades in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. While in Saskatchewan, after researching and then developing the first provincially approved Alternative Justice Program for the First Nations people of Saskatchewan, he was nationally recognized for outstanding policing and service delivery to the First Nations peoples.

Randy Kolibaba has a long and proven record of being a master of leadership when dealing with organizations in crisis. Randy was selected to oversee Canada’s largest ever United Nations civilian policing mission in war-torn Kosovo, Yugoslavia (UNMIK).  Regardless of the harsh and often extremely dangerous working and living conditions in Kosovo, not only was he responsible for all of the Canadian policing interests in Eastern Europe but he was also asked by the United Nations to research and oversee the subsequent creation of the United Nations International Border Police Service. His combined area of responsibility totalled a staff of 307 Canadian and International police personnel.

Randy Kolibaba has been internationally recognized for his leadership, diplomacy, project management, and employee engagement and development. He also has proven success in efficiency, growth, and profitability in diversified areas of service delivery, not only within the umbrella of Public Safety but also including senior management within the Health Care Industry and the “Not-for-profit” sector.

In a time when the organizational culture within the RCMP frowned upon members with stress-related illnesses, Randy Kolibaba was diagnosed with Chronic Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after returning from his United Nations mission in war-torn Kosovo, Yugoslavia. After having witnessed firsthand the atrocities of genocide. As a senior officer in command of a large municipal policing detachment servicing over 60,000 people, Randy successfully and proactively dealt with his PTSD.

He has now spoken to audiences in person and on radio and TV talk shows in Canada and the United States. He has been asked to write guest articles on PTSD for Global National News and several other personal wellness magazines. Randy’s first book “The Lies Behind the Truth”, which openly discussed his diagnosis of PTSD is now featured in the official libraries of a number of healthcare providers within the Okanagan region of British Columbia as resource material for their patients suffering from PTSD.

In February 2015, Randy Kolibaba was diagnosed with a life-threatening auto-immune disease and given only days to live by four different doctors. After having a near death experience while laying in a trauma room of the intensive care unit at the Kelowna General Hospital, not only did he survive his illness but he has gone on to write about his journey of self-exploration in his second book. The book “Is this the life you Imagined: What if you were wrong?” is a best-selling book in the Self-Help genre in the area of perseverance and motivation.

Randy Kolibaba’s areas of expertise are in team leadership, employee engagement and development, personal wellness and mindful living, PTSD, project management, First Nations policing, change management, and performance improvement.

  • Leadership is easy when everything is going well…however, it takes vision, flexibility, and undogged determination along with morals and courage to lead organizations in times of crisis or major change. Many very talented leaders struggle because they don’t maximize their greatest resource, their employees. Randy Kolibaba walks his audience through a number of highly emotional and politically charged situations where he took organizations from their basic inception and in complete chaos to becoming highly functional entities, for which he has been recognized Nationally and Internationally for their success.

When many talented and gifted leaders struggle when faced with adversity, this talk will explore proven methodologies, techniques, and the role of leadership in defining and supporting collective habits of execution to achieve desired outcomes.

post traumatic stress disorder – the silent killer

  • Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
  • Having returned home after overseeing Canada’s largest-ever United Nations civilian policing mission in war-torn Kosovo, Yugoslavia, where he investigated the horrors of genocide firsthand, Randy Kolibaba was a broken man inside and just never realized it.  Randy suffered for almost two years with internal turmoil, including self-medicating with alcohol to cope with the reoccurring nightmares and debilitating anxiety, all of which he hid from his family and employer.

This presentation is a moving and inspirational account of Randy’s diagnosis of chronic PTSD and how it affected not only his personal life but also his professional life. The overarching message in this presentation is “You don’t have to suffer in silence”. Randy Kolibaba has addressed audiences all over Canada and the United States provided written guest articles in national publications and had a number of interviews on both television and radio talk shows. Randy’s first book “The Lies Behind the Truth”, which is sold in 55 countries around the world, is also included in libraries of a number of healthcare facilities for their patients suffering from PTSD.

finding a way – bridging the gap in the traditional justice system

  • As a high-ranking member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police with over thirty-four years of policing experience, Randy has been responsible for providing policing services to First Nations People in both Saskatchewan and British Columbia for almost two decades. Randy’s presentation will focus on his work on how to bridge the communications gap to better understand the First Nations’ perspective with respect to their peoples and the traditional justice system, whether in isolated northern communities or large urban centres. This presentation focuses on uniting communities and in doing so, generating better understanding and cooperation with both the First Nations People and the Non-First Nations community.

mindful living - is this the life you imagined?

  • Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
  • This presentation will take you and your group on a journey of self-exploration. Having been diagnosed with a life-threatening disease and given only days to live, Randy Kolibaba will share his inspirational story on the power of thought and belief and how it helped him overcome his illness. His experience inspired him to write a best-selling and critically acclaimed book “Is this the life you Imagined: What if you were wrong?”, which is helping countless people all over Canada and the United States.

Randy’s challenges include; being raised by an abusive alcoholic father who routinely raped his mother, having taken a man’s life while in the line of duty as a police officer in Saskatchewan, to having been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after witnessing the atrocities of genocide while working with the UN in war-torn Kosovo, Yugoslavia. Randy demonstrates that when you take responsibility for your life and change the way you look at your life, your life will change. When he changed his attitude from “What’s in it for me” to “How may I serve”, he manifested incredible peace, harmony, and abundance into his life. He now lives the life he was meant to live.

The hardest and often saddest reality that many people come to, is they are not living the life they envisioned for themselves. This presentation will help you understand that there are “no rewind” or “do-over” buttons in life and if you think you have time to wait for that elusive “someday” to come along… well, it won’t.

leadership – competing to be the leader in the “not for profit” sector

  • Randy was the founding and long-time serving President of the Vernon and District Land Trust Society, a “Not-for-Profit” agency in the North Okanagan region of British Columbia. The mandate of the society was to create clean, affordable, and safe housing for low-income seniors, veterans, and families at risk. Having started with nothing more than name recognition of the board members in 2007, when Randy eventually resigned from the Land Trust in 2018, the Society had amassed over five million dollars in land assets. Randy has presented before local, provincial, and national audiences on affordable housing.

This presentation will help your organization develop a solid and sustainable organizational foundation to generate viable funding streams. Besides having the true desire to help others, the biggest secret to creating a viable “not-for-profit” society is to ensure that everyone on the board of directors leaves their egos at the door!
