SHAYLA STONECHILD BIOGRAPHY

Shayla Stonechild is a proud Métis and Nehiyaw Iskwew (Plains Cree Woman) from Muscowpetung First Nation. She has dedicated her life to advocating for Indigenous youth and women, helping them reclaim their voices, bodies, and spirits that have been historically silenced. Through her work in media, wellness, and activism, Shayla continues to be a catalyst for change, fostering empowerment, cultural reclamation, and healing within Indigenous communities.

Shayla is an award-winning television host, best known for her role on APTN’s Red Earth Uncovered, where she explores Indigenous history, culture, and spirituality. Her presence in mainstream media helps amplify Indigenous perspectives and stories, challenging stereotypes while celebrating the richness of Indigenous traditions. Beyond television, she has used her platform to advocate for social justice, representation, and the importance of reconnecting with one’s roots.

As a certified yoga instructor with over 500 hours of teacher training at CMMN GRND, Shayla brings a unique approach to wellness by integrating Indigenous teachings with traditional yoga practices. She believes in the power of movement as a form of healing and reclamation, encouraging Indigenous youth and women to reconnect with their bodies in a way that honors their ancestry. Her work in the wellness space has gained international recognition, making her a leading voice in the intersection of Indigenous identity and holistic well-being.

In 2020, Shayla made history as the first Indigenous person to be featured on the cover of Yoga Journal magazine, breaking barriers and paving the way for greater representation in the wellness industry. She has also collaborated with global brands, using her influence to push for more inclusive and culturally respectful spaces. She is a key member of Lululemon’s Diversity and Inclusion committee, where she works to ensure that Indigenous voices are heard and valued in the wellness and fitness industries.

Beyond media and wellness, Shayla is a sought-after speaker and mentor. She has traveled across North America, facilitating workshops, delivering keynote speeches, and leading discussions on Indigenous rights, wellness, and cultural identity. Her work is centered around decolonizing spaces, creating opportunities for Indigenous youth, and ensuring that traditional knowledge is preserved and celebrated.

Shayla’s passion for advocacy extends to her work with grassroots organizations, supporting initiatives that focus on mental health, self-empowerment, and community healing. She is a strong advocate for Indigenous representation in all spaces—whether in media, wellness, or corporate leadership.

Through her powerful storytelling, dedication to wellness, and commitment to Indigenous advocacy, Shayla Stonechild continues to inspire a new generation of leaders. Her work is a testament to the strength and resilience of Indigenous peoples, and she remains devoted to uplifting voices that have long been marginalized. Whether on-screen, in a yoga studio, or on stage, Shayla’s mission is clear: to empower, educate, and create lasting change for Indigenous communities worldwide.
