Expedition Leadership: Expanding the Leadership Mindset
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
Throughout this presentation on leadership mentality, Alan focuses on some of the moral dilemmas that we are often faced with, especially when working in teams and when there is internal tension and feelings involved, and the attitudes and mindsets that help get through these dilemmas.
Alan shares some of his family’s dynamics and some of the challenges they have gone through both as a family and as a climbing team. Maintaining integrity at all times in what we say and do is of utmost importance, especially as leaders and when others are looking up to us. This is one of the most uplifting presentations Alan offers. It focuses on attitude and the choices we make on a daily basis regarding the attitude we want to foster. How we feel truly is a result of how we react to events, not the events themselves, and this is almost 100% controlled by the attitude and mindset we choose to carry around with us.
Peak Innovation: Ascending From Vision to Reality
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
This engaging session explores the innovation approach and methods to increase the chances of successful innovation. It is all about opening our minds to innovation and allowing ourselves to think outside the box. The simplest path is usually to follow the status quo of how things have always been done but only by taking a step back and expanding our minds to consider new thoughts and ideas, can true progress be made.
The innovative process has a lot of parallels to what Alan and his team went through on the mountain so the sequential process of planning and executing the expedition paints an excellent picture of what is involved and allows Alan to clearly illustrate the innovative process. As a Mechanical Engineer specializing primarily in custom machine design and innovation, Alan also shares knowledge and anecdotes from his professional career to supplement and reinforce the key takeaways.

A Mountaineer's Guide to Safety & Risk Management
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
Alan’s presentation on risk management focuses on safety challenges and the different ways of controlling and mitigating the risks that arise when executing projects and pursuing goals. Ideally, we want to eliminate any and all possible risks but this is very difficult to achieve. Being able to control and reduce risks is essential for a safe and successful outcome. This was of course of paramount importance on the mountain and Mallory’s ability to be able to mitigate the risks as much as they could is the reason they all returned home safely.
Through proper planning and careful execution, risks can be greatly mitigated even in the most challenging endeavours. Many of the situations and risks can be closely paralleled with challenges that we are faced with regularly in the workplace or especially on field visits and construction sites. Technically Speaking: Communication Excellence & Soft Skills Development
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
Alan’s session on Communication Excellence is a fast-paced and engaging message specifically for technical or analytic audiences. Technically minded individuals have so much great knowledge and wisdom to share but often the lack of effective communication skills makes information transfer a challenge. University programs in engineering and other technical studies focus so much on theoretical and specialized knowledge that soft skills such as communication are frequently overlooked. In order to succeed and reach our full potential in this day and age, effective communication skills are a must!
Communication difficulties are one of the biggest reasons teams fall apart and projects fail. In order to function well as a team and as an organization, communication is probably the most important element to maintain and improve upon on a daily basis. Recognizing communication difficulties that technical professionals are faced with and exploring how to resolve them and improve the flow of communication is what this session is all about.
The Importance of Building Trust in Relationships
- Virtual PresentationKeynote PresentationWorkshop SessionHalf Day TrainingFull Day Training
This engaging presentation focuses on the fundamentals of how to develop a strong level of trust in professional relationships and why it is so important to do so, especially between team members. It highlights the major elements involved in building trust in relationships, maintaining a high level of trust between individuals and rebuilding trust that has been broken. Alan shares many of the techniques that he and his team used before and during their expedition to the top of Mount Everest.
The experiences that the team went through together beforehand and on the mountain helped build the trust needed to survive and work as a single unit. On the mountain, many teams fall apart each year and are unsuccessful due to a lack of trust, which is a sad but fairly common reality. Every year, only about 29% of climbers reach the summit and one of the major reasons is that they have not developed a strong enough level of trust to effectively work together in the harsh environment that the mountain creates. The strong message that Alan delivers during this session summarizes the many different advantages that teams have once trust is present and explores how and why this is so important in the workplace and in any given team endeavour.

We were very fortunate to have Alan Mallory give two inspirational Presentations to our residents here at The Salvation Army Meighen Manor. One presentation was on July 15th, 2015 “Climbing Mount Everest” and the other one was an Inspirational Presentation on August 12th, 2015. Alan told the story of his family’s journey climbing Mount Everest, together, with great passion. Alan was well prepared, did not use notes and could easily adapt to the specific needs of the audience: in this case elderly seniors. He set up his PowerPoint on time and the residents totally focused on Alan and his magnificent slides of the track to the top of Mount Everest. His inspirational message that...

Alan Mallory was a keynote speaker at our professional development workshop. He provided a magnificent pictorial presentation (including some video) outlining the challenges of the preparation and climb to the summit of Mount Everest. Alan described how a RACI chart can help teams to overcome roadblocks, face internal challenges, and continue towards a common goal. It was an incredible presentation highlighting the importance of strategic planning, goal setting and teamwork, to overcome adversity. He tailored his presentation to meet the needs of our group and focused on the importance of building trust, explaining the advantages that teams have once trust is established. It was a pleasure...

Alan is engaging. At first I was a little leery about an Everest Climb being used in a Project Management workshop but I quickly understood the relevancy. Alan used his families quest to the top of the world as a way to engage the room and I would recommend his presentations to anyone, especially to Project Managers planning difficult projects and managing the risk involved. I was sold 5 minutes into his presentation.

Please accept my sincere thanks to you, on behalf of the Lakehead Chapter of PEO, for agreeing to travel to Thunder Bay and presenting on your (and your family’s) great adventure of climbing to the summit of Mt Everest. For me, it was certainly an eye-opener as to the amount of preparation, cost and amount of gear required for this project. The other part of the presentation that blew me away was the sheer number of dangers you had to overcome the potential for avalanches and sudden severe winter storms, the potential for falls into crevasses, climbing over precariously-mounted ladders with spiked boots, having to repeatedly climb up and down parts of the mountain to build up haemoglobin...
