Bruny Surin Biography

Bruny Surin was recently inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame and by doing so, became the first athlete with Haitian roots to earn this prestigious honour. An athlete that was born in Cap-Haiti, and later immigrated to Montreal, Canada at the age of 7 with his parents and sisters. A tireless athlete, Bruny Surin discovered track and field as a teenager; at that time of his life, he perfected the long jump and the triple jump. Despite his obvious talent, ankle injuries led him to another path: running. Resilient, the sprinter quickly overtook his opponents to reach the podium, starting with the 1990 Commonwealth Games and then the 1994 Games. With his drive and determination, he continued his rise in a multitude of national and international competitions until Bruny Surin and his Canadian teammates won gold at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta in the 4 x 100 m relay.

In 1993, Bruny Surin emerged on the world tour, capturing his first of two back-to-back World Indoor Championships over 60m. Bruny Surin was ranked on five different occasions as one of the top ten sprinters in the world and ran seven times under the 10.00-second barrier. To date, his personal best of 9.84 seconds is the 5th fastest of all time. Today, Bruny Surin leads by example influencing, motivating, and encouraging by telling his story of sacrifices, hard work, and dedication. Bruny Surin offers his services across the country to schools, corporations, and organizations with the hopes of inspiring them to reach their respective dreams.

Bruny Surin is a humble and conservative man – fitting for a man who ran the third leg of Canada’s gold-medal relay squad in Atlanta. The Quiet Lion – the title of his biography – was the setup man for Donovan Bailey’s glory, but victory wouldn’t have been possible without Bruny Surin’s workmanlike run around the bend. Bruny Surin continued his athletic career until 2002, a pivotal year that led him to open a new chapter in his life as a businessman and philanthropist. Bruny Surin created Sprint Management Inc. to develop business partnerships and mentor the business community, and the Bruny Surin Foundation to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for young people to improve their physical and mental health. Bruny Surin is now a president and chief executive officer of his own group of companies, including Sprint Management, and now uses what he learned to maintain a stable of more than 20 athletes. Services include the handling of endorsements, post-career counselling, and financial planning. Bruny Surin also runs a charitable foundation, has a clothing line, and invests.

Bruny Surin is convinced and is living proof that his message of perseverance during hard times along with setting and managing goals are instrumental keys towards success. Bruny Surin: Olympic Champion, Canadian Track and Field Legend, and entrepreneur. Bruny Surin is a born communicator whose discourse and humour positively influence mindsets and foster the development of a collaborative spirit. Known for his special contributions to our nation, on more than 500 occasions, Bruny Surin has shared his remarkable path to success with students, corporate clients, and business leaders. His motivation has led him to accomplishments that are as beneficial to young Quebec athletes as they are to the business community! Bruny Surin Speaking Testimonials

"The City of Laval’s Special Events and Communications team had the opportunity to work in collaboration with Bruny Surin during the 4th edition of the Laval à Velo event in September 2018, where Bruny acted as spokesperson. We were all won over by his great openness and flexibility in bringing all our ideas to life during his mandate. He took his role as spokesperson seriously, took ownership of the mandate, and took care to prepare himself adequately and to know our event well. As a result, he far surpassed our expectations. He was also very available to meet our needs in terms of creating tools: filming, photo shoots, media presence, etc. He was also very helpful in the development..."
