Dr. Taslim Alani-Verjee is a psychologist, and mental health & wellness expert passionate about creating stronger, healthier & more inclusive communities. Dr. Taslim Alani Verjee is the Director and Founder of an organization where she practices from a Cognitive-Behavioural orientation (e.g., CBT, DBT, and ACT). Dr. Taslim has developed a model for Anti-Oppressive Leadership that she has been offering to C-level executives, managers and leaders, and this integrates her knowledge of mental health, social justice, equity and inclusion. She works with adolescents and adults who are having difficulties with adjustment and/or with their mental health.

DR. TASLIM ALANI-VERJEE BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Taslim Alani-Verjee is a Clinical Psychologist living and working in Toronto, Canada. She is the Founder and Director of an organization, a community-based and social justice-oriented practice that seeks to make mental health awareness and services more accessible to the communities with whom she and her team work.

Her practice has over 20 clinicians, supports pro bono and sliding scale work, and has developed community partnerships to promote the well-being of organizations and those who work within them. Dr. Taslim Alani-Verjee has also co-founded another company, a psychoeducational mental health subscription service that seeks to help users understand and experience their emotions. She is a MedCircle Certified Educator.

Dr. Taslim Alani-Verjee has offered many talks, trainings, and workshops related to well-being, including self-care and burnout, noticing the signs and symptoms of mental illness, and diversity, inclusion and anti-oppression. She ensures that each of her talks and workshops are tailored to the specific community for whom she is working.

Dr. Taslim Alani-Verjee has been invited as a guest/keynote speaker regarding mental health, resilience, burnout, oppression and racism. She has been interviewed by many media outlets (e.g., Global, CBC, CTV, Huffington Post) regarding the same.

Dr. Taslim Alani-Verjee teaches regularly at Lakehead University where she is an Adjunct Faculty member. She is a Faculty Member at Adler Graduate Professional School where she teaches courses on Ethics in Psychology, Psychopathology, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Cultural Humility.

She teaches Counselling Skills and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy within the Global Mental Health program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Taslim Alani-Verjee has her Ph.D. and Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Lakehead University, where her research focused on body image, eating disorders, intimate partner violence, and engaging with marginalized populations using community-based participatory research.

Dr. Taslim Alani-Verjee obtained her Masters degree in International Development Studies from Dalhousie University where her research focused on intimate partner violence within First Nations communities in Northwestern Ontario. She completed her Honours Bachelor of Arts at Brescia University College at Western University.
